Offshore Medical training

On a long-distance cruise, due to the isolation from emergency services, you may have to perform medical acts (emergency procedures or prescriptions for medication) that you are forbidden to do on land. It is crucial to train before departure to make a vital diagnosis and to communicate if possible with a medical support on land before taking action.

At the end of this training course led by experienced sailing doctors, you will have acquired the knowledge to:

  • Detect the signs of seriousness of a medical situation, perform a vital check-up, communicate the symptoms to a medical authority.
  • Apply a procedure to deal with a life-threatening emergency and perform the first emergency actions necessary for survival.
  • Manage a trauma (burns, hemorrhages, wounds, fractures or sprains)
  • Apply medical prescriptions and perform the necessary technical gestures (disinfection, sutures, immobilizations, intramuscular injections…)
  • Prepare an on-board pharmacy adapted to the intended program, understand and sort its contents.
  • Know the procedures for a medical evacuation.
  • Adopt the necessary preventive measures during an exotic trip.
  • Know the risks linked to marine fauna and flora, as well as the specificities of tropical diseases.
